The End of Empire: life on the frontiers of imperial politics
Scholars are meeting at the McDonald Institute this week (6th-8th December) to talk about what happens when empires collide and collapse. Dr Susanne Hakenbeck, Fellow of the Institute, has organized the event. Dr Hakenbeck's research focuses on the nomads and farmers along the Danube frontier following the demise of the Roman Empire. "Empires are expansive, swallowing whole populations that stand in their way. But what happens when things fall apart is a fascinating topic", says Dr Hakenbeck.
