RESEARCH LABORATORY TECHNICIAN
McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research
Salary: £20,226-£22,765 pa

Applications are invited for the post of Research Laboratory Technician. The post-holder will provide high quality technical support to three McDonald Institute laboratories: the Isotope Lab, the Archaeobotany Lab and the Genetics Lab. S/he will also carry out chemical analyses to investigate palaeoclimate and palaeodiet as part of a project entitled “Cultural transformations and environmental transitions in North African Prehistory”. The project is based primarily in Cambridge but with occasional travel to the University of Leicester to assist a co-investigator.
The post-holder will work in an interesting and friendly research environment and will be involved in laboratory management and ongoing research. The successful applicant will have significant knowledge and experience of analytical biochemical and chemical techniques, previous laboratory experience and computing skills, particularly in the manipulation of data spreadsheets. Some prior knowledge of isotope mass spectrometry is desirable, as is an interest in archaeology. Applicants should be qualified to at least HNC-level in a biological or chemical science and should have relevant GCSEs. The ability to work well in a small team is crucial.
